A ‘K-Pop High School’ Is Opening Its Doors in Busan

A ‘K-Pop High School’ Is Opening Its Doors in Busan

The South Korean city of Busan will be getting its own high school dedicated to training the K-pop stars of the future.

Slated to open in 2028, the school is billed as specializing in K-pop performance and other aspects of the music industry and will most likely be located in the city’s Gangseo-gu area, Ha Yoon-su, Busan’s superintendent of education, announced in a briefing.

The school isn’t the first of its kind. In 2020, South Korea opened the High School of Korean Pop and Performing Arts in the South Chungcheong province to train budding K-pop stars.

As for the new institution, those with experience in the K-pop industry will teach classes across vocals, dance, composing and songwriting. International students, as well as locals, will be allowed to apply to attend.

The superintendent described the school as “in the early stages of planning.” City officials are currently evaluating several different locations where the school will be housed. A task force will be assembled to determine details such as student population size and curriculum.

In other music news, MF DOOM’s wife spoke on concerns about the hospital’s treatment of the rapper before his death.
