Ahead of the refreshed 2021 Nissan Armada‘s official debut later this month, Nissan released a very brief teaser video of what we can expect from updated full-size behemoth. From the looks of things, the large-and-in-charge Armada receives a host of exterior tweaking inspired by the aesthetics of the similarly updated Nissan Patrol that broke cover last year. Hardly surprising, considering the current Armada is essentially a Patrol repackaged for the U.S. market.
What we see from the seconds-long teaser is the new Armada blasting along a straight desert road, with our only true look at the new SUV being from a bird’s-eye—er, more likely, drone‘s eye—view as it cuts through the dusty terrain. From such a distance, we can just make out a new front fascia, now incorporating Nissan’s trademark “V motion” grille and updated headlights. The brief shot of the rear also advertises a new freer-flowing bumper design for improved aerodynamic profile.
Really, that’s all we can make out amidst the dust and distance that dominate the video. If we were betting folk, we’d expect revised interior tech, trim, and tinsel alongside the exterior squeezes, with more paint and upholstery colors at every level. Follow the Patrol playbook, and the center console and infotainment stack might swap over to the overseas SUV’s Infiniti-esque climate control cluster.
Mechanically, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the 5.6-liter naturally aspirated V-8 remain the sole engine option, likely augmented with the same upgrades levied onto the 2020 Nissan Titan. If so, power will jump to 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque, perhaps mated to the Titan’s new nine-speed auto versus the outgoing Armada’s seven-speed.
Excited? Understandable. Make sure you tune into Nissanusa.com/live on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m EST for the live look at the new full-size SUV.
