The key to any successful winter wardrobe is to have the perfect coat, boots and selection of knitwear as your starting point. Yes, this might sound very obvious, but often at this time of year we can overlook practical staples in lieu of something a little jazzier and so I spent an afternoon hunting out the best boots, coats and knits I could find. After hours of scrolling there were three high-street brands in particular which I think have done winter basics right this year—Arket, & Other Stories and Mango.
I have only bought a handful of items this year, and they have all been from Arket—I bought a ribbed camel beanie, a long down puffer coat (essential for socially distant walks) and I currently have a pair of knitted joggers in my basket. I find that this Scandi brand really excels at layering pieces and cold-weather dressing—the recycled Down, cashmere knits and track-sole boots are really sensible purchases for a winter spent mainly outdoors.
& Other Stories creates staples with a little more personality—right now I love the collard cardigans, pastel knitwear and khaki padded coats. If you’re looking for a more structured, tailored coat, I’d advise you head to Mango as they have beautiful wool overcoats.
