Sech had a big night at the 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards on Wednesday night, where he took home his first-ever Latin Billboard trophy for best new artist of the year and performed his 2020 hit “Relación” with a gospel choir.
But before taking the stage, the Panamanian artist opened up about the Black Lives Matter movement on the red carpet.
“I don’t know if it made a difference or how people received it, but it came from my heart to truly support everything that was going on and talk about the topic,” he told Billboard, referring to a heartfelt post he shared on social media in June amid the worldwide protests in response to the death of George Floyd and other Black citizens who have died at the hands of police. “Hopefully those people who are not aware listen and take conscience, and those who are, thanks for supporting this cause.”
