Every party season, the sequin trend rolls around. And, in many ways, this autumn/winter are no different. Except, there will be fewer parties, if any, to go to this time. The COVID restrictions, whatever they may be come the festive period, will no doubt prevent us from celebrating the usual way. Like pretty much every other activity in our lives, this means our wardrobes will be impacted, too. I’m all for a head-to-toe sequin outfit, but in reality, I know I’d feel a little overdressed for a Christmas mostly spent on Zoom office parties and the sofa watching The Holiday for the 89th time. But, let’s remember that right now we need to celebrate where we can, and actually, something sparkly might just be what we need to keep our spirits lifted during these times.
The major rule on how to wear them this season is to just dip your toe in—there’s no need for a full sequin outfit (unless you want to, of course). So try a pair of trousers, a jumper, or a skirt and pair it with other everyday fabrics, such as cotton, denim, or knit. Or the other way round, based on what you favourite glittery finds. It will come as no surprise, if you’re a regular follower of fashion, that Bottega Veneta has created the ideal shirt for the coming season, and it has just the right amount of sparkle. It’s a sequin shirt but not as we know it. Crucially, the shirt comes in more tonal colours (muted gold, a pastel blue, and green), which makes this the kind of garment you might also wear outside of the party season. Take a style tip from Grece Ghanem, who’s paired her shirt with a pair of blue jeans.
