A new official visual for Lazarus has been unveiled via the project’s official X account. First announced in summer 2023, Lazarus is an upcoming sci-fi anime series by Shinichiro Watanabe, the legendary director of Cowboy Bebop.

Set against a vibrant purple backdrop, the new visual features a striking tricolor palette. At the center of the is an unidentified packaging, where its contents have spilled all across the floor. The contents are depicted as white and pearl-like, with a group of hands scattering around the suspicious packaging. The accompanying caption reads “The impactful visual of the painkiller “Hapuna” that spreads around the world as a miracle drug with no side effects but causes death within three years of taking it has been released 💊” — hinting at the pearl-like contents in the image.

In addition, the new announcement also reveals details for the anime’s opening and ending theme songs. “Vortex,“ a new track by American Jazz saxophonist, Kamasi Washington is confirmed as the anime’s opening theme. Meanwhile, the ending song, “Lazarus,” by English alternative rock band, The Boo Radleys, will likely exude a rather different vibe.

Produced by MAPPA, Jujutsu Kaisen’s animation studio, Lazarus is a 13-episode series that is set to release sometime in 2025
