Austin Butler is set to star as the titular Patrick Bateman in the remake of American Psycho. Filmmaker Luca Guadagnino is slated to release a new interpretation of the novel of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis for Lionsgate.
The remake is expected to feature a script by Scott Z. Burns. The film is slated to be a new rendition of the novel, not of the 2000s film starring Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe and Reese Witherspoon. Previously, rumors pinpointed Jacob Elordi to star as the lead roll. The original movie was set in 1980s and saw Bale portray Patrick, a Wall Street yuppie and serial killer. Luca Quadagnino has been famously known for Call Me By your Name, Challengers and most recently, Queer. Given his film track record, it is not wrong for fans to assume that Guadagnino may be taking a more erotic approach to the original horror satire.
The film is likely to begin production following Guadagnino wrap of After the Hunt starring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield. Stay tuned for more information.
