A24 has released the official trailer for Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist starring Adrien Brody.
The critically acclaimed historical drama sees Brody play the main character László Toth. The film follows Toth after survives the Holocaust in World War II Europe and travels to American in search for a new life. The official trailer of the film sees Toth arrive in America and finding out that his wife Erzsébet has also survived the war. The epic sees Toth being discovered for his architectural talents in America. Brody is joined by Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin and more in the cast. Pearce’s character asks Brody’s character in the trailer, “Tell me why is an accomplished foreign architect shoveling coal here in Philadelphia.” Toth explains, “I’m afraid it is not so simple” and describes his work in Europe during the war, “There was a war on, and yet many of the sites of my projects had survived.” The film seems to also center around the discrimination Jewish immigrants faced at the time. Pearce tells Felicity Jones, who plays Erzsébet, “Your English is impressive. Perhaps you can help your husband sound less like he shines shoes for a wage.” Toth can be seen getting frustrated, yelling “They do not want us here.”
At the moment The Brutalist has received several Golden Globe nominations including best motion picture, best performance by a male actor and more. The film is slated to debut with a limited 70mm release in New York and Los Angeles on December 19 with a general release following in January 2025.
