Craig Robins Collection Channels Francisco Goya's Uncanny in 'The Sleep of Reason'

Staged at the Dacra headquarters in Miami, the Craig Robins Collection unveils The Sleep of Reason, a presentation of over 300 works hailing from the esteemed collection of the Design District powerhouse. Drawing inspiration from Francisco Goya’s 1799 etching “El sueño de la razón produce monstruos (The sleep of reason produces monsters)” from his seminal Los Caprichos series, the exhibition revels in a fascination with surreal states, infusing the office space with creative spirit of its surrounding neighborhood.

This cornerstone of Goya’s oeuvre serves as a point of departure for a double showcase of works by Kai Althoff and Jana Euler. Through drawings, paintings and sculptures, the two artists embrace the unsettling and delve into psychic landscapes that veer into the surreal and uncanny. Staying true to a Freudian logic of dreams, Althoff and Euler render this entanglement of emotion with an unflinching intensity.

Spanning across several floors, other highlights include recent acquisitions by Jill Mulleady, Mario Ayala, Karon Davis, Bony Ramirez and Alteronce Gumby. Also on view are gems by John Baldessari, Mickalene Thomas and Lauren Halsey, alongside the likes of designers such as Jean Prouvé, Zaha Hadid, Ron Arad, Marc Newson, Maarten Baas and Samuel Ross.
