Sky Ferreira Releases First Song in Two Years “Leash”

Sky Ferreira Releases First Song in Two Years "Leash"

Amidst her ongoing battle with previous record label Capitol Records, Sky Ferreira has released her first song in two years, marking her first project outside of her former label in over a decade. In partnership with A24, “Leash” will be included in the soundtrack for the forthcoming film Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson.

The track reprises Ferreira’s classic garage rock sound with distorted electric guitar riffs and amplified drums blaring through the background. Her vocals are strong and clear as she sings ominous lines like “Surrender to the master. In the end, nothing matters.”

One can’t help but notice the synergies between the movie’s subjects and the artist’s decade-spanning situation. Babygirl follows the contentious relationship between a young employee (Dickinson) who pursues a C-level manager (Kidman) and the complicated and sensual power dynamic that plays between the two. Ferreira was scouted to be a model as a young teenager and later released her debut EP As If! at 18 years old and then her debut LP Night Time My Time at 21. Since then the release of her sophomore album Masochism has been delayed by Capitol Records for the last 9 years.

Now that the artist is free from her contract with Capitol Records, fans can expect to hear more from Ferreira from now on. “Leash” is out everywhere now. Listen to the new single below.
