Todd Phillips’ widely-panned sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, will be available to stream exclusively on Max beginning on Friday, December 13th. It will then debut on linear HBO on December 14th at 8:00 p.m. ET.
Starring a returning Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck/Joker opposite Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, Joker: Folie à Deux was a commercial flop. With a $200 million production cost and an additional $100 million going to marketing and distribution, it’s projected to lose up to $200 million during its theatrical run.
In our review of Joker: Folie à Deux, Senior Entertainment Editor Liz Shannon Miller praises Phoenix and Lady Gaga for their acting, but sums up the movie as a “muddled love story that falls apart due to its inability to express anything thematically substantial or original.”
