The New Eyewear Edit: Every Style to Wear This Season (and Beyond)

Not to be dramatic, but I refuse to leave home without eyewear. If I forget to put on rings, I’m fine. A belt? I’ll live. But my eyewear? Absolutely not. There’s nothing worse than not being able to see, either due to the sun (I live in L.A., so it’s sunny nearly every day) or my poor eyesight (sometimes contacts are just not it). I like to think of eyewear as my comfort accessory— I need it for practical reasons of course, but it’s also the one item that completes every outfit and makes me feel more put together.

Model and fellow L.A. girl Salem Mitchell is just as obsessed with eyewear as I am. Right now she has her sights (no pun intended) set on Vogue Eyewear. As someone who’s known for her cool, Gen Z–coded style, it’s no surprise that she’s a fan of the fun and fashionable eyewear brand. See her top three picks and how she’s styling them with trending fall outfits.

“Sunglasses are an essential accessory for me because I am such a squinter when the sun is out,” Mitchell says (and as previously noted, I could not agree more). I love all the details of the pair Mitchell is wearing here, from the subtle cat-eye shape to the thick black frames to the soft blue lenses. They’re very trend-forward but not difficult to style. Here she’s wearing a modern take on suiting—the cropped blazer and baggy trousers paired with the sleek loafers gives more cool girl and less corporate. “These black frames take this suit look from serious to a bit more chic, and I love that these frames are more lightly tinted so you can see just enough of the eyes,” Mitchell says of her look.

There’s a really fun juxtaposition happening in this look. The striped polo and miniskirt give a back-to-school-uniform look, while the kitten-heel pumps and oval-shaped sunglasses give more of a street-style vibe. “These frames are the perfect blend of playful and classic,” Mitchell says. “I think a rounder shape is a bit more youthful and fun, but the dark lenses and hardware make them classic enough for any cute look like this one!”

Dark denim is at the top of Mitchell’s fall must-haves list so it’s no surprise that this last look is her favorite. Denim on denim never really goes out of style, but this tailored take on a matching set feels fresh for the season, especially styled with Mitchell’s favorite optical glasses. “These frames are definitely my go-to style and shape for day-to-day wear and I think the metal frames compliment the stitching so well,” she says. “Because I wear glasses for vision, I try to choose glasses that can go with any outfit. When I’m feeling funky I like to do gold frames. I’m a gold jewelry girl, so I think the combination of gold eyewear with gold jewelry brings a little something extra to an outfit.”
