Elon Musk Advocates for a 'Tron'-Like Future With the Tesla Robovan

Earlier this week, Elon Musk revealed two of Tesla‘s newest self-driving concepts. While the autonomous Robotaxi was the main event, he also revealed the Robovan, which does not have a production date just yet.

The Robovan has been described as a fully autonomous transporter that Musk promises can seat up to 20 people and can be adapted to transport goods for commercial or personal use. After seeing the concept, Musk also told the audience that the Robovan will be built just like the conept. He said to a crowd of invite-only spectators, “We’re going to make this, and it’s going to look like that.” While he did say that the name of the vehicle had “van” in it, the toaster-shaped EV has an art-deco design that resembles a bus or a train. Just like the Robotaxi, the Robovan will not have a steering wheel or pedal. The robot will be driving the car and the vehicle is meant to advocate for maximum comfort for passengers.

Inside the Robovan can be multiple rows of seats facing each other. There are also wall-mounted displays on both ends of the cabin and a sliding door opens on one side while two vanes of glass panels run alongside the roof. Musk said that the Robovan is customizable and can be easily adapted for various uses. While Tesla has not confirmed when the Robovan will begin production, it is expected for 2027 at the earliest. An unsupervised version of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software will dictate the future of both the Robotaxi and the Robovan. Take a look at the Robovan above.
