Rich Homie Quan's Death Ruled an Accidental Overdose

Rich Homie Quan‘s cause of death has been confirmed. The rapper, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, passed away on September 5 at age 34 due to an accidental drug overdose, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Per the autopsy report obtained by People Magazine, fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, promethazine and THC were found in the rapper’s system when he died. Lamar was found by his girlfriend in his Atlanta apartment, with no signs of trauma or foul play evident in the report.

“Mr. Lamar did not appear to be alert, conscious, or breathing,” reads the statement, with no “medical or underlying illness” present.

An autopsy was performed the day after Lamar’s death, though the medical examiner’s office ruled that both the cause and manner of death were “pending the completion of laboratory studies and microscopic examination of tissue slides.”

The rapper’s family shared the below statement after his death:

“Known to the world as Rich Homie Quan, Dequantes Devontay Lamar was a proud native of the great city of Atlanta, Georgia, and represented for the A as he and his music traveled across this globe. Quan’s legacy will forever be cemented as a soundtrack to our lives. And for this, we are grateful.”

The rapper’s funeral took place on September 17, with the city of Atlanta officially declaring that day “Rich Homie Quan Memorial Day.”
