Daniel Day-Lewis is coming out of retirement to star in a new movie directed by his son.
The three-time Academy Award-winning actor is set to star in Anemone, marking his first on-screen role since 2017.
Daniel Day-Lewis co-wrote the film with his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who is making his directorial debut. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script “explores family bonds, specifically those involving fathers, sons and brothers.”
Alongside Day-Lewis, the cast includes Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green.
Day-Lewis previously announced his retirement from acting following the release of The Phantom Thread in 2017. He never gave a specific reason for his decision, only sharing a statement through his representative: “Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.”
Day-Lewis is regarded as one of the greatest actors of his generation and the only actor to win three Academy Awards for Best Actor.
