The suburban life simulation game The Sims is being made into a movie. Launched in 2000, the Electronic Arts franchise has accrued a cult following for its relaxed sandbox-style gameplay as players control virtual people in an open world known as SimCity.
Amazon MGM is helming the project, while Kate Herron, director of Loki on Disney+, is directing the film. The Sims team at Electronic is producing alongside LuckyChap and Vertigo Entertainment.
For fans of The Sims, a movie has been a long time coming. 20th Century Fox acquired the rights to make a film back in 2007 but never pursued the project.
The Sims is among the best-selling game franchises of all time, with over 200 million copies sold globally.
