Patrick Martinez has a different message to stake in anticipation of the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. Produced in collaboration with Mixed Media, the Los Angeles-based artist has released five new lawn signs that offer a more candid response to the socio-political cycle, from cries of a ceasefire regarding the war between Israel and Hamas to abortion rights back home.
The latest works are a follow-up to the first series of protest signs Martinez released with Charlie James Gallery during the last election. As politicians can often say one thing and do the exact opposite, Martinez wanted a “more nuanced as well as straightforward political expression outside of the typical political speech that is often brutal and cruel for many,” said Martinez in a statement.
Measuring 18 x 24 inches on double-sided corrugated plastic, the signs are inspired by Martinez’ haiku-like neon signage that offer poignant reflections on the erasure of indigenous cultures across LA, as well as serving as uplifting messages for humanity as a whole.
“It’s important for me to talk to someone that doesn’t want to come into a museum or that doesn’t care to,” Martinez previously told Hypeart. “The neons are kind of that, they hang in windows to try and communicate to a passerby.”
Available individually for $80 USD or in a set of five for $300 USD, each protest sign is available to purchase at Mixed Media. 50% of the sales of the Cease Fire! signs will be donated to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
