Marvel‘s Deadpool & Wolverine is shaping up to be the summer blockbuster film. Combining the storylines of two of the MCU‘s most popular characters has lent itself to be a winning match at the box office.

Skyrocketing to $205 million USD at the opening weekend box office, the sequel now holds the record for being the eighth-best debut of all time. It lands ahead of another Marvel classic, 2018’s Black Panther which hit $202 million USD. Deadpool & Wolverine find themselves just below 2012’s The Avengers which came in at $207 million USD and 2015’s Jurassic World at $208 million USD. With its opening weekend success, the film is now the biggest R-rated debut ever. The ticket sales have surpassed the first Deadpool film which had $132 million USD in 2016 as well as Deadpool 2, which now got bumped down to being the third biggest R-rated debut with $125 million USD. With all three Deadpool sequels taking the top spots, Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Feige have made history.

Globally, Deadpool & Wolverine captured the hearts of Marvel fans and beyond, gaining $233.3 million USD, bringing the total international tally of $438 million USD. Just three days after the film’s release, it is already the sixth-highest grossing film of the current year. It cost Disney $200 million USD to produce and another $100 million USD to promote the film. With its trajectory, the film is bound to be profitable. The final numbers surpass the projected $170 million USD. The Shawn Levy-directed film catapults to astronomical success, bringing back Logan amongst plot twists and major cameos.
