JT Reflects on Life Before Stardom in New Documentary ‘The Making of City Cinderella’

“My name is Jatavia Johnson but you know me as JT,” the rapper says in the opening of her documentary, The Making Of City Cinderella.

Out for streaming now, the 22-minute short film delves into the backstory and come-up of one of the most popular rappers today, from her first meeting with Quality Control executives. With fame on the horizon, JT recalls how right as City Girls was taking off, she was sentenced to prison on fraudulent credit card charges.

She was shooting music videos and recording right up until her sentencing and then served over a year in a Florida prison.

JT recalls “getting out to so much love and support” and how upon her release “it was go time” for the City Girls. While her career quickly took off, the rapper was also forced to grapple with the criticism and pressure that accompanies fame.

In tandem with releasing the documentary, JT has shared the tracklist for her highly anticipated City Cinderella mixtape. Dropping on Friday, June 20, the 16-track tape features guest appearances from Stunna Girl, Jeezy and CLIP.
