Top Dawg Entertainment-affiliated rising talent Devin Malik is ready to make his formal debut. After warming up on ScHoolboy Q‘s Blue Lips LP in March, and following it up with a solid string of solo singles, Malik has revealed his first-ever studio record DEADSTOCK is releasing in just a few weeks.
In the words of Malik himself, DEADSTOCK is “AN AUDIBLE HORROR FILM directed by Devin Malik” focusing on themes of “LUST, RAGE, COMEDY,” he wrote in an Instagram caption.
After unveiling “CANADIAN TUX” in March and “PDA” in April, the emerging rapper officially kicked off the project’s rollout a few days ago with another new single: a bouncy two-minute cut entitled “BACKSTAGE.”
“IPOD NANO VIBES. sellin’ this banger for $0.99 via iTunes,” Malik continued on Instagram, sharing the track’s nostalgic iPod Nano-inspired visualizer.
With an impressive production discography – including credits for Isaiah Rashad, Ab-Soul, Doechii, REASON among many others in the TDE ether – Malik only dropped off his first solo offering, “LINK DUCKER,” in 2023; needless to say, his debut is anticipated by hip-hop heads from all sectors of the industry.
Stream “BACKSTAGE” on Spotify and Apple Music now and keep an eye out for DEADSTOCK, which is slated to drop everywhere on Friday, June 28.
