Music on Main kicks-off with Zivanai Masango & ZiMBiRA

VICTOR, Idaho. — Afro fusion meets Salsa in Victor City Park for what will be a festive opening evening of Teton Valley Foundation’s 17th Annual Music on Main concert series. Headliner Zivanai Masango & ZiMBiRA rolls into the Tetons this Thursday from Boulder, Colorado with a ten-piece ensemble steeped in the traditional music of Southern Africa with traditional and modern instrumentation. Local Latin-Salsa band Calle Mambo will open the show.

ZiMBiRA’s bandleader is guitarist extraordinaire Zivanai Masango, an award-winning artist, audio engineer and producer. Born in Harare, Zimbabwe into an extended family of master musicians deeply involved in traditional mbira and brass band music cultures, Masango was immersed in diverse music traditions and performances from a very early age. The band’s sound is a powerful blend of vocals, drums, electric guitar, bass guitar and traditional African instruments mbira (African thumb piano), marimba and hosho (gourd shakers). The pulse of 6/8 time brings a unique groove to match the ornate stage vibe.

Teton Valley Foundation presents Zivanai Masango & ZiMBiRA with guests Calle Mambo, 6-10 p.m. on Thursday at Music on Main in Victor City Park. $5 at the gate. All-ages with food vendors, a shuttle service to and from Driggs, and a bike valet. TetonValleyFoundation.org.
