Normani’s debut album Dopamine has been a long time coming. As the first full-length solo project from the Fifth Harmony alum, the singer officially announced the LP back in February with a teaser of her covered in silver paint.
True to its title, the album paints a joyous narrative of the next chapter in Normani’s life and career, while also exploring themes of sexuality and femininity.
Dopamine opens with the lead single “Big Boy” with Starrah, which hears Normani confidently reflect on her path thus far. Other tracks, like “Still,” hear her pay homage to her home city of Houston, featuring a sample from a fellow native, Mike Jones’ “Still Tippin.’”
“Take My Time” is an upbeat dance-pop track, while “Insomnia” is an emotional admission of heartache and grief in the aftermath of a breakup.
Throughout Dopamine, Normani flexes her ability to deliver across genres. It also contains features from the Cardi B on “Wild Side” and Gunna on “1:59,” both of which were released prior, and James Blake on the new song “Tantrums.”
