Machine Gun Kelly Talks New Album, True Love and His Beef With Eminem

Machine Gun Kelly Talks New Album, True Love and His Beef With Eminem

Machine Gun Kelly sprayed it around during an on-air chat with Howard Stern, which covered off everything from love, buddies, enemies and switching his sound.

The Cleveland native is promoting his fifth studio album Tickets to My Downfall, which sees him tread a different musical style. MGK’s previous four LPs could be pigeonholed as hip-hop. The new one is sonically pitched as pop-punk. Yes there are detractors. Kelly doesn’t care.

“I just want to go against what everyone else thinks,” he said during his debut on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show. “I make a pop-punk record … and everyone’s like, ‘You switched genres!’ To me, I just added on to the multiple things I’ve already done anyway, but, sure, what a narrow-minded way to look at things.”

Downfall drops Friday (Sept. 25) and is the followup to 2019’s Hotel Diablo, which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart.

MGK (real name Colson Baker) also discussed his simmering beef with Eminem. “I’m like asleep on my tour bus and this f—ing guy drops an album with like three songs consecutively talking about me. What the f— you think I’m going to do, just f—ing roll over and go back to sleep? I said what I said,” MGK told Stern. “Respect the fight and that’s it.”

Kelly and Em’s feud has origins dating back to 2013 when MGK talked about the Detroit legend’s daughter in a tweet. Their bad blood spilled out again in 2018 as they locked horns on a pair of diss tracks in “RAP DEVIL” and “KILLSHOT.”

MGK no longer plays “RAP DEVIL” at shows and Em has gone on the record to say their “war” is over. It would appear the truce is holding.

“I’m all about putting my arm around people,” MGK insists.

What Kelly and Marshall Mathers do have in common is a segue into acting. MGK has appeared in several films, including the Mötley Crüe biopic The Dirt and Netflix action film Project Power.

Kelly also talked about the good things in life, namely his relationship with Megan Fox and his friendship with SNL alum Pete Davidson. “Pete is like my little brother, and my best friend too,” he says of Davidson, before taking a stroll down memory lane and how the pair bonded over weed while filming The Dirt.
