An iconic 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS, once owned by pop legend Cher, is now up for auction on Bring A Trailer. This classic car boasts a rich history, including ownership by noted racer Chris Cord and a long tenure with a third owner in San Francisco.
One of approximately 2,900 E-series models produced until July 1974, this specific Dino is finished in its original Rosso Chiaro over Nero leather and features a 2.4-L V6 engine with triple Weber carburetors, a dogleg five-speed manual transaxle and distinctive 14” Cromodora alloy wheels. The car also includes an ANSA exhaust system, a removable roof panel, air conditioning and power windows.
The car underwent an extensive multi-year refurbishment by the selling dealer, starting in 2013, which included a repaint, interior retrim and mechanical service. The exterior now features US-market lighting with recessed rectangular front turn signals, side markers and rear reflectors, along with a driver-side mirror, power antenna and split chrome bumpers.
Its wheels are mounted with 205/70 Michelin XWX tires and a matching spare is stored in the front trunk. The car’s independent suspension features unequal-length A-arms, coilover shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. Power-assisted ventilated disc brakes ensure optimal stopping power, with a comprehensive overhaul of the steering rack, suspension and brakes completed in 2023.
Inside, the cabin, retrimmed in 2018, includes fixed-back bucket seats in Nero leather, a gray “mouse-fur” dash and black carpets. The MOMO Prototipo steering wheel and gated dogleg shifter complement the Dino-branded Veglia Borletti instrumentation, with the odometer reading 65,000 miles.
At the time of writing, this Cher-owned Dino is still available for bidding for another 11 days at no reserve, with the current highest bid at $500,000 USD.
