In an homage to one of Formula 1‘s greatest icons, McLaren has unveiled a special tribute to Ayrton Senna with unique liveries showcased on a heritage McLaren Senna and the MCL38 Formula 1 cars. This tribute coincides with the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, marking 30 years since Senna’s passing in 1994.
The “Senna Sempre” livery, crafted by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), adorns a pre-production McLaren Senna from McLaren’s heritage collection. This striking design features vibrant colors reflecting Senna’s Brazilian heritage and his dynamic personality. The livery incorporates elements celebrating Senna’s illustrious racing career, particularly his successes at the Monaco Grand Prix, where he achieved six victories, five of which were with McLaren.
In addition to the heritage car, the MCL38 Formula 1 cars driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will also sport a bespoke livery for the Monaco Grand Prix. These liveries, painted in the Brazilian flag’s bright yellow, green and blue, symbolize Senna’s relentless pursuit of perfection and his enduring legacy.
Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive, expressed the emotional significance of this tribute, stating, “Ayrton Senna was born to race, and his passion for performance and perfection lives on at McLaren. Our collaboration with McLaren Racing to honor the Senna racing legacy 30 years on is a shared celebration of Ayrton’s unique racing abilities.”
Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, echoed this sentiment, highlighting Senna’s lasting impact on the team and the sport: “Senna remains revered and respected as Formula 1’s greatest icon, and McLaren’s most decorated driver. His impact on McLaren is enormous, not only through his racing record but also presence within the team, and now his legacy.”
The unique McLaren Senna with its “Senna Sempre” livery will be on display throughout the Grand Prix weekend, offering fans a reminder of the racer’s extraordinary achievements and his unforgettable spirit.
