30 years after the premiere of the blockbuster action thriller Speed, Keanu Reeves wants to do a third installment of the franchise. In the original film, Reeves starred as LAPD Jack Traven alongside Sandra Bullock as Annie Porter, a bus passenger who gets roped into an extortionist’s mastermind plan.
Speed debuted in 1994 and a sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control, premiered in 1997, though Reeves notably didn’t return for the latter, which wound up being a box office flop.
Reeves and Bullock appeared together on the 50 MPH podcast and Reeves revealed that he opted out of Speed 2 after reading the script as he “had the feeling it just wasn’t right.”
The two also shared their mutual desire to reunite for a Speed 3 movie.
Asked about a potential third movie, Keeves replied, “I mean, you know — we’d freakin’ knock it out of the park.”
“There’s no formula. It just is,” Bullock said of reuniting on-screen with Reves. “Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera.
“It does feel like there is a siren call to it, like there’s something that wasn’t done,” he later added. “I would love to work with [Bullock] again before our eyes close.”
While there’s no official project on the books, fans can continue to hold out hope Reeves and Bullock join forces for another action-filled escapade.
