At ABHK, Antenna Space presents Allison Katz’s artwork ‘Between the Cock and the Bed’, which explores the complexity of contemporary art creation and masculinity. Through playful ambiguity, Katz challenges the notion of a distinct artistic style, using symbolism like a speeding cock approaching Edvard Munch’s bed to delve into deeper layers of consciousness. She expands the concept of the bed to represent mystery and rejuvenation, touching upon ineffable drives that extend beyond art itself.

David Kordansky Gallery, lauded as a vibrant hub for contemporary art on a global scale, has recently announced its representation of the emerging artist Maia Cruz Palileo. Palileo’s paintings, characterized by a fusion of rich and vibrant colors, will be featured in the gallery’s showcase at Art Basel Hong Kong. Her work delves into intricate and layered compositions, often delving into her personal connection to the Philippines and exploring her family’s history within the context of the United States.

Empty Gallery will showcase artworks by Jes Fan, Taro Masushio, Henry Shum, Jacqueline Kiyomi Gork, Doris Guo, Tishan Hsu, and Raha Raissnia for Art Basel Hong Kong 2024. This collection of works explores the concept of the self or body as an emotional archive, suggesting that its unconscious depths can be tapped into to transcend personal, tribal, or identity-driven narratives that uphold the illusion of subjective autonomy.

LINSEED, Booth 1C32

LINSEED will showcase British-Singaporean artist Kara Chin’s solo project, ‘Shh the Film Is Starting,’ at Art Basel Hong Kong 2024’s Discoveries sector. Inspired by Chin’s recent exploration of apocalyptic and posthumanist films, the presentation focuses on the concept of anachronism, where the present is haunted by the future. Through a collection of 3-D printed and handcrafted sculptures, the exhibition delves into the pervasive fear of the unknown and contemporary anxieties regarding the intersection of ecology and technology.

Public Gallery will feature a solo booth showcasing new works by London-based Taiwanese artist Steph Huang, marking both the gallery and artist’s debut participation. Drawing from the artist’s previous solo exhibitions at Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art (2022) and the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (2022), the presentation explores cultural symbols of playful indulgence, such as marketplaces, restaurants, and games of chance. Huang examines how these spaces convey intersecting colonial legacies through their architecture, interior design, ingredients, traditions, etymology, and translation. The exhibition will include glass-blown, cast metal, and wooden sculptures, highlighting the serendipitous and precarious nature of exchanges centered around food and dining experiences.
