Royal expert Richard Kay argued their recent conduct, and their new friends, are helping the couple move away from the royal sphere and into a future as “mere celebrities.”
On the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential show, Kay said: “They have crossed the Rubicon from royalty into mere celebrity.
“That’s really what they are, Hollywood celebrities with that extra factor because of their titles. I’m not sure in the long term where it is going to lead them.
“The problem they are going to have in America, as we’ve discussed many times, is that America has a short-term system.:
He added: “They are enthralled by celebrity for a while but after a while, if a celebrity is a bit of a one-trick pony and they’ve only got one story to tell, and in Harry’s case that’s probably true, they’ll move on to the next new thing.”
Meghan’s latest venture, American Riviera Orchard, was unveiled last week with a sneak peek on social media.

A trademark application submitted on February 2 this year reveals the company plans to offer downloadable and printed recipe books, tableware, textiles, and jams and marmalades, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office website.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams suggested that the launch of the new brand was designed to remind the public that the Sussexes are “still around”.
Fitzwilliams pointed out that the unveiling of Meghan’s new business project and the Sussexes’ announcement of the winner of Archewell’s £78,500 NAACP award came on the same day as the Diana Legacy Awards, during which Prince William delivered “a rather touching” speech.
Fitzwilliams explained “there is no question at all” that their two big news items – a new digital award in the US for fighting racism and sexism online, and starting American Riviera Orchard on Instagram – are to remind everyone that the Sussexes are still here.
He added: “I think that the Sussexes specifically included these announcements to underline the fact that they’re still around and of course with reference to Netflix they certainly, that’s their big contract.
“They have taken steps to ensure that we know they’re still in the business.”
