Dr. Dre Reveals He Suffered Three Strokes Prior To Aneurysm in 2021

Dr. Dre recently touched on his brain aneurysm in 2021, revealing that he actually suffered from three strokes in the weeks leading up to the aneurysm.

In his appearance on James Corden and SiriusXM’s This Life of Mine, Dre shared that the experience “definitely makes you appreciate being alive,” adding, “It’s something you can’t control, it just happens. During those two weeks, I had three strokes.” He went on to explain that he initially didn’t think much of the symptoms until they got worse. “I got up and went about my day, and I thought I could lay down and take a nap. My son and a female friend were like, ‘No, we need to take you to the hospital,’” he shared. “Next thing you know, I’m blacking out, I’m in and out of consciousness and I end up in the ICU.”

He remained in the ICU for two weeks and had doctors tell him how lucky he was. ” I asked questions about what I could’ve done to prevent this, no one could give me an answer,” he continued.

In June 2021, he told the Los Angeles Times that he’s been “feeling fantastic” since the aneurysm. “It’s a really weird thing,” Dre said. “I’ve never had high blood pressure. And I’ve always been a person that has always taken care of my health. But there’s something that happens for some reason with Black men and high blood pressure, and I never saw that coming. But I’m taking care of myself. And I think every Black man should just check that out and make sure things are OK with the blood pressure. And I’m going to move on and, hopefully, live a long and healthy life. I’m feeling fantastic.”
