In a stripped-down performance at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont, Miley Cyrus delivered a cover of Talking Heads’ 1977 classic, “Psycho Killer.” In her rendition, Cyrus swaps out the track’s signature bass-heavy melody for acoustic guitar and banjo, while rewriting several lyrics in one verse.
After reciting the song’s famed words, she sings her own: “I love you psycho killer/ I’mma love you forever/ You know I’ll never run away,” cheekily asking the intimate audience if her take is “better than the original.”
The performance comes after news that Cyrus will contribute to A24’s Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to the Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense album, which will feature covers of the David Byrne group’s music from the likes of Lorde, The Natinal, Teezo Touchdown, Kevin Abstract, Jean Dawsn, girl in red, Blondshell and more.
Fans suggest that Miley’s Chateau Marmont performance offered a preview of her contribution to the album; however, it has not been confirmed whether Miley’s performance of “Psycho Killer” will be featured on the tracklist.
