After a little over a two-year wait, Dune: Part Two has finally landed and even though many have yet to see the film, the community is already raving. While the audience score is still pending, the film already has a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes out of 207 reviews. So with the opening weekend for theaters worldwide officially kicking off tomorrow, it would be no shock if the score grows even higher. But in celebrating the sequel film, Texas-based sand animation artist Grace Zhang has her own vision of paying homage – by recreating the Dune: Part Two trailer entirely from sand.
Using just two tools, her hands and sand, the animation trailer reveals the plight of the film. In the two-minute and eleven-second video, you’ll see Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the Fremen, sandworms and more. Just as the actual trailer shows it, the sand animation depicts scenes including Paul riding his first sandworm, Paul’s battle with Feyd-Rautha and more.
“I am extremely honored to have created this artistic animation inspired by Dune: Part Two,” said Zhang. “With flowing sand as the animation medium, I utilized the play of light and shadow and the narrative expression to convey the grand, climactic fantasy of this film.”
