of Montreal have announced their new album, Lady on the Cusp, due out May 17th via Polyvinyl. The indie veterans have also unveiled a string of 2024 tour dates and dropped a new single, “Yung Hearts Bleed Free,” with an accompanying music video. Frontperson and primary creative force Kevin Barnes has billed Lady on the Cusp as both a summation of the band’s previous work and a personal goodbye to Athens, Georgia. The artist had lived in the city since the mid-1990s, famously working with the Athens-based Elephant 6 Recording Company before recently relocating to Vermont. The songs of Lady on the Cusp, written and recorded in the months before the move, serve as the last of Barnes’ work as an Athenian.

Lead single “Yung Hearts Bleed Free” takes a turn toward of Montreal’s funkiest tendencies. Inspired by the Leos Carax film Boy Meets Girl and Bootsy’s Rubber Band, Barnes sought “to make a strutting, sexy little vamp of a song that just kind of chugged along and felt relaxed and playful and free,” as they explained in the press release.

of Montreal have also charted out a slew of new dates for the spring of 2024. (Fittingly) kicking off on May 31st in Athens, the jaunt across the United States will run through early July, hitting cities like Brooklyn, Chicago, Los Angeles, and more. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 8th via Ticketmaster.
Once tickets are on sale, fans can look for deals or get tickets to sold-out shows via StubHub, where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. StubHub is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.
Lady on the Cusp continues a streak of relatively rapid-fire releases from of Montreal, including 2022’s Freewave Lucifer f<ck f^ck f>ck, 2021’s I Feel Safe with You, Trash, and 2020’s UR FUN. of Montreal also make an appearance in the recently re-released Elephant 6 documentary.
