Yaya Bey‘s third solo album is on the way. The Brooklyn-bred artist is readying for the release of Ten Fold later in the spring, dropping off the album’s second single “chasing the bus” today, which comes with a music video Bey choreographed herself.
Ten Fold is set to encompass 16 dreamy cuts, featuring a select few artists including Exaktly and Grand Daddy I.U. As for today’s glimpse at songstress’s highly anticipated release, “chasing the bus” finds Bey in her zone: firing off introspective lyricism paired with enthralling choreo.
“This song has a double meaning,” she notes in a statement. “On the surface, it’s about being taken for granted in a romantic relationship. Being slept on and underestimated. But beyond the surface, it’s a metaphor for how I feel in so many spaces in the industry and it’s sort of an affirmation for myself or a reminder to let go of validation or the lack thereof. To exist regardless because I have to.”

“As a second-generation musician I always told myself I would be the Ten Fold,” she wrote in a message on X, citing her father and her Muslim heritage as key inspirations behind the project’s title.
The album is called Ten Fold cause I grew up Muslim and my dad’s name is Ayub which is the same story as Job in the Bible. And because Job was faithful whatever he lost God gave it back to him Ten Fold. As a second generation musician I always told myself I would be the Ten Fold.
