He might be releasing a new album, he might not be releasing a new album. A recent story by Hidji World has sparked new rumors regarding an upcoming 2024 album by JAY-Z. The project recently speculated on social media early Sunday afternoon when the director implied that he was on set shooting with the prolific rapper.
In the Instagram Story, Hidji World teased a photo of a first-take film slate that read, “JAY Z-2024 ALBUM.” Hidji’s name appeared to be written as the director while Leroy Farrell was the director of photography. It alluded to a new JAY-Z music video in the works, dating January 28. As the rumors began to pick up steam, Roc Nation was quick to respond, commenting on a post on X, “That’s news to us,” almost squashing the rumors immediately.
JAY-Z’s last solo album released in 2017. The album, 4:44 spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and the following year, he released Everything Is Love with Beyoncé as The Carters, their first joint set as the iconic husband-and-wife duo. In an interview with Gayle King last year he said, “I’ll say I wanna make music, but it has to be something important. I don’t wanna just make a bunch of tunes. That’s not gonna serve me. It won’t feed me, first of all. I have to be saying something important. It has to mean something, you know? It has to mean something to a larger society.” There is no official word yet on a new album from Hov.
