African artists score nominations at BRIT Awards 2024

Established in 1977, the BRITs are the biggest event in British music.

Grammy 2024 nominees Burna Boy and Asake were shortlisted in the Best International Artist category, sharing the roster with renowned American superstars such as Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, SZA, Olivia Rodrigo and Lana Del Rey. Rema secured a nomination for Best International Song with ‘Calm Down’, alongside Libianca and Tyla.

This year, the awards increased the number of nominees for both Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year from five to 10, a change aimed at improving representation and inclusion.

RAYE, the most nominated act at the awards, is up for seven awards, including Artist of the Year. Central Cee and J Hus both receive four nods, with Dua Lipa following closely with three.

“This year’s BRIT nominees really highlight the incredible breadth and diversity within British music,” this year’s BRIT Committee chair Damian Christian said. “From breaking artists to returning greats, and with artists spanning so many genres, this year’s shortlist really feels like it has it all. I’d like to congratulate RAYE on her record-breaking seven nominations, as well as every other artist up for an award. I hope to see you all on the night!”
