A rare 1984 BMW Alpina B6 2.8/1, one of only approximately 260 units produced, is currently up for auction via Bring A Trailer. This unique collector’s item, identified as the 25th in its series, combines the classic and beloved design of the BMW E30 with distinctive Alpina performance enhancements.
The vehicle features an eye-catching Alpina Blue Metallic finish complemented by silver Alpina graphics, results of a repaint that is said to have taken place roughly five years ago. Additionally, the rare example rides on Alpina 16” alloy wheels and has recently been fitted with Toyo Extensa HP tires.
Under the hood, the B6/2 2.8-L inline-six engine, a hallmark of Alpina engineering at the time, boasted lighter Mahle pistons, a performance camshaft, optimized combustion chambers and exhaust components. Initially rated at 210 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque, this powertrain has been updated with a Bosch Motronic fuel injection system from an E32.
While the vehicle has undergone recent maintenance, including the changing of fluids and replaced ignition components, Bring A Trailer notes that it does currently run rich when cold and that it lacks the ECU for the Alpina control management system.
Inside, the cabin features iconic Recaro LS seats in gray cloth with vinyl sides, accented by blue and green stripes. The car retains its original wood Alpina shift knob, cassette stereo and analog clock. Additionally, the dashboard boasts a plaque verifying its authenticity as the 25th B6 2.8/1 built.
At the time of writing, the ‘84 Alpina B6 shows roughly 96,000 miles on the odometer and has a leading bid of $50,000 USD placed, with five days left on the lot‘s clock.
