Nissan Equips Its X-Trail e-4ORCE for Mountain Rescue

In an attempt to redefine Mountain rescue operations in European ski resorts, Nissan has unveiled the X-Trail Mountain Rescue vehicle — equipped with the automaker’s e-4ORCE all-wheel drive technology and fitted with a variety of gear specifically selected to meet the challenging demands of mountain rescue missions.

The X-Trail Mountain Rescue stands out with its snow tracks replacing conventional wheels, designed for superior traction on slippery slopes. Additionally, the vehicle’s interior has been expertly adapted for rescue operations, with the rear seats removed to accommodate a stretcher and a seat for a sole medical professional. This design allows the swift and safe transportation of injured skiers to medical facilities.

Externally, the vehicle is equipped with a bespoke roof rack for carrying an evacuation stretcher and snow shovels, a vital necessity in rescue scenarios. Additionally, it features a siren, a flashing light bar, powerful roof and hood lights, wider fenders, an enhanced front bumper with a winch and reinforced towing hooks. The inclusion of footboards and a raised ride height facilitates easier access in rugged terrain.

The heart of the vehicle is Nissan’s electrified twin-motor e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system, which offers exceptional grip management, reacting to changes in surface traction in just 1/10,000th of a second – nearly 1000 times faster than traditional systems. It also adjusts power distribution to each wheel individually, for safe travel in various conditions, from urban wet roads to snowy mountain paths.

In tandem with this technological showcase, Nissan is launching the “Ride Responsibly” campaign in five European ski resorts. The campaign promotes safe slope etiquette through digital signs that encourage snow riders to slow down at critical junctions, aimed at reducing collision risks. As part of this initiative, the X-Trail Mountain Rescue will be exhibited in a glass box at the popular Italian ski resort of Cervinia.

Coralie Musy, Vice President of Brand & Customer Experience at Nissan AMIEO, emphasized the dual role of this initiative, showcasing Nissan’s advanced e-4ORCE technology and advocating for responsible behavior among winter sports enthusiasts. “Nissan defies the ordinary not only through technological innovation but also in its societal contributions,” Musy stated.
