Local business owners unite for healthy living event in Scottsdale - Daily Independent

Dorie Morales, publisher of Green Living Magazine, Suzette Smith, founder of Garden Goddess Ferments, and Gainey Village Health Club & Spa are presenting a Back to the Basics – How to Be a Healthy Human event 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Gainey Village Health Club and Spa, 7477 E. Doubletree Ranch Road.

“Our goal is to empower attendees on their wellness journey, offering practical insights and fostering a supportive community. We believe this event will have a positive impact, helping individuals not only set, but achieve their resolutions for a healthier and more fulfilling life,” says Smith.

Known for her fermented foods and the owner of Phoenix’s first fermented food manufacturer, Smith will share her decades-long knowledge of sauerkraut and kvass during her Fermentation 101 class. Attendees will ferment their own B, C and Dill (broccoli, cauliflower and dill) using a hands-on kit and learn to kick the sugar out of condiments to create their own fermented mustard, ketchup and ranch dressing.

Morales will lead a seminar on “Simple Solutions to Attain an Eco-Conscious Life” by providing a peek inside her inspiring eco-chic home. She’ll offer approachable ideas for conscious living, provide information on how to make small changes that make a big impact on the planet. She will have a show and tell experience of eco conscious products.

“We’ve curated something that transcends ordinary New Year’s health resolutions,” says Morales. “Whether you’re seeking control over your health, intrigued by the power of real food and sustainable living, curious about gut health and fermentation, or simply yearning for a community of like-minded individuals, this event is made for you.”

The Village Health Clubs & Spas will hold demonstrations of aerial yoga, meditation and traditional yoga.

“We are excited to host this event alongside a great partner in Green Living Magazine,” says Village Health Clubs & Spas president Carol Nalevanko. “Wellness is the name of the game at the Village and we look forward to welcoming the community to our Gainey Village location for this one-of-a-kind experience.”

Other participants include Dr. Rick Jacoby, author of “Sugar Crush,” whose event talk is titled “Un:Glued – How Stem Cells Dissolve the Effects of Sugar”; Lisa and Jennifer Kaiser of Pinedora Farms, who will share tips to master the art of raising backyard chickens and saving seeds; and Tessa Gurley of Enliven Wellness, with advice on how to be self-sustainable on a budget. The day’s agenda also includes a plethora of other scientific workshops, including The Power of the Microbiome and insights into The State of Our Food Supply from a local farmer’s perspective. The event concludes with a Healthy Happy Hour featuring live music by 24th Street Jazz 4:30—5:30 p.m.

Tickets to the event are available for $75. Visit greenlivingmag.com/events/back-to-the-basics.
