For decades, Porsche cars have been synonymous with high performance. Leading the new year in auctions is an ultra-rare Porsche 918 Spyder at Sotheby’s. Known as one of the greatest supercars ever made in this century, this car also boasts a unique color scheme, the “Psychedelic Design.” Sotheby’s calls this car “arguably the finest and most lavishly specified 918 Spyder in existence.” Featuring a color scheme of PTS Rosso Corsa paintwork with white painted Magnesium wheels and Indian Red leather to sample, this car is the only “Psychadelic Design” 918 Spyder built for the European market. The car is being offered for auction by its first and only owner with less than 800km driven on the car.
As one of just three 918 Spyders to feature the “Psychdelic Design” livery, it is the only car to be finished in white over Paint-to-Sample Rosso Corsa. Porsche has always been known for its eye catching liveries and color schemes, and none is more head-turning than this “hippy” color scheme. In addition to the psychedelic paint job, the exclusivity of the car is what sets it apart from others. With just 918 samples built of the 918 Spyder model, this car, numbered 680, was delivered in January 2016. While most 918s received a vinyl wrap under the Weissach-package, this particular one was painted. The color customization which saw the white-painted magnesium Weissach wheels along with silver brake calipers, No. 8 racing nomenclature on the doors and hood and even a discreet Martini Racing badges on the lower rear fenders causes a rise by onlookers.
Just as impressive are the interiors which feature custom red leather trims featuring contrasting white piping on the seats while the trunk and the firewall are highlighted in black-quilted fabric. The options total to over $192,000 USD on top of the original $860,000 USD cost of the vehicle. The cars output comes from a 608 horsepower 4.6-liter V8 engine with electric motors on the front and rear, giving the car a combined 887 horsepower and over 940 ft lbs of torque. It hits zero to 60 mph in 2.2 seconds with a top speed of 214 mph.
The ultra-rare 2015 Porsche 918 “Weissach” Spyder is heading to Sotheby’s Sealed auction which ends on January 20, 2024 and is estimated to go for more than $2.3 million USD.
