Director James Gunn Says 'Superman: Legacy' Trailer Won't Be Arriving Until Next Year

James Gunn is setting expectations straight when it comes to the timeline of his latest project, Superman: Legacy.

The action flick will mark the first installment in Warner Bros.’ new DC Universe (DCU) franchise. Gunn, who directed Suicide Squad and the Guardians of the Galaxy films, was brought on board to direct and write the film.

While fans were hoping to see a trailer later this year, Gunn has told fans that a trailer won’t be coming in 2024. A fan had posed the question to the director on Threads, to which Gunn said, “no,” and shared that filming would kick off in two months.

“We don’t begin filming until March. Writing is basically done and has been for a while, other than a comma here, a comma there,” he continued.

Superman: Legacy is currently scheduled to be released in July 2025. David Corenswet stars as the titular character, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor

Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned,” the movie’s logline reads.

Stay tuned for more news on the forthcoming Superman: Legacy.
