Will Smith was recently at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where he shared new details regarding the upcoming I Am Legend 2. The sequel to I Am Legend will star Smith and Michael B. Jordan, where both will also be producing the film.
Smith confirms that the sequel is based on the alternative ending used in the 2007 post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie’s DVD release instead of the theatrical version where his character dies. Giving fans an update on the sequel, Smith said, “We’re really close, script just came in. You have to be a real I Am Legend buff to know this, but in the first, theatrical version, my character dies, but on the DVD there was an alternate version of the ending where my character lived. We are going with the mythology of the DVD version. I can’t tell you anything more, but Michael B. Jordan is in.” In the conversation, Smith also referenced his infamous slap at the 2022 Oscar’s ceremony. On his poorly judged mistake, Smith said he had “always been good at math and science…and I loved problems and puzzles, so I started making my own problems.”
During the festival, Smith also confirmed that he and his co-star Martin Lawrence will reprise their roles for Bad Boys 4. The sequel, I Am Legend 2 does not have an official release date just yet. Stay tuned.
