Director Destin Daniel Cretton Exits Marvel’s ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’

Director Destin Daniel Cretton Exits Marvel's 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty'

Just a little over a year after Marvel announced that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton would helm the next mager superhero ensemble film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, news has now surfaced that he has departed the projects.

The film was said to be positioned as the next Avengers: Infinity War-style project in the new Marvel era. Due to delays the film is now scheduled to release in 2026 with Secret Wars following in 2027. The news of Cretton’s departure comes after a string of uncertainties riddled with the film. Due to allegations against Jonathan Majors, fans have speculated what they will be doing next. Majors plays a titular supervillain, Kang, who has appeared on Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The future of the film at Marvel remains in limbo as the studio figures out what their next steps will be.

While Cretton is no longer attached to this project, he still remains on board to direct the sequel of Shang-Chi. He is not departing the MCU and is still tied to the Disney+ series, Wonder Man. Marvel has not yet identified who will be replacing Cretton.

In other entertainment news, Taika Waititi is ready to step away from the Thor franchise.
