East London-based musician and fashion mogul, KwolleM, has just dropped his latest music project, delivering a polished and clean-cut collection of “mellow grime” records to deliver one of the most essential UK listens of the year.
Having made his mark on the British music scene with his pioneering Mellow EP in 2017, the producer, rapper, and all-round creative eventually followed up on the project with his sophomore project c2c in 2020 — coming as a stellar representation of his evolution, while working with new and exciting musicians along with veterans in the game — such as Joe James and Manga Saint Hilare — to create a body of work that perfectly balanced the essences of nostalgia and visionary.
Now, after a three-year hiatus, KwolleM is back with his latest project, Melo – and it’s named after his recently-born daughter. The record dips in and out of the process of becoming a dad, while also sketching out a future where KwolleM intends to provide everything he needs for his offspring.
Dipping into a slew of musical influences — such as grime, drill, R&B, drum and bass, and garage — the project also enlists a solid list of collaborators. The likes of KwolleM’s close friend Joe James are included throughout, performing alongside the likes of Slawn, AJ Tracey, SL, Ashbeck, Novelist, Bawo, Unknown T, and more.
