YouTube Music is the latest Google app to get an AI feature

YouTube Music is the latest Google app to get an AI feature

For YouTube Music listeners who need the aesthetics of their playlist art to match the music, the streaming app has a solution.

On Tuesday, the Google-owned service announced an AI feature for customizing playlist art, as part of a bunch of features focused on personalization.

YouTube Music users can now use generative AI to design custom artwork through a guided experience directly on the playlist page. Previously, playlist artwork showed a grid of four album covers within the playlist. By tapping on the edit tool below the artwork, users can browse through themes like landscapes, animals, and travel to find the right visual and tweak it by choosing different text prompts and art styles like Pop Art and Medieval Gothic. Once you’ve found the perfect artwork to match the vibe of your playlist, hit “Save” and enjoy.

AI-generated playlist art is currently only available in the U.S. in English but will be rolling out to other regions and languages globally.

Recently, YouTube Music has rolled out new features, in keeping with other apps and services that harness AI for customizable experiences. That’s included Samples, a TikTok-style vertical swiping experience that shows teasers of new songs to discover, integrated comments that add to the conversation on YouTube Music, and a radio station “tuner” for building a session around specific musicians, styles, and moods. Soon to come is a “speed dial” module that features your most-listened-to music on the homepage, in keeping with other apps and services that harness AI for customizable experiences. According to the announcement, this feature will be available in the coming months.

Spotify, YouTube Music’s main competitor has also released AI features, including an “AI DJ,” and automated translations of podcasts into different languages.
