Meta and Ray-Ban Unveil Next-Generation Smart Glasses With Improved Audio, Camera and More

Meta and Ray-Ban have revealed their next generation of smart glasses in partnership with Italian-French design conglomerate EssilorLuxottica. The companies launched their first-gen edition of the glasses in 2021.

In the two years since then, designers have focused their efforts on revamping the glasses with improved features and technological capabilities. The new Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses come with custom-designed speakers for audio that prioritizes direction and a higher maximum volume while reducing audio leakage.

At the top right corner of the lens is a new camera model that may look subtle but captures surprisingly high-resolution imagery. The new ultra-wide 12 MP camera can also take 1080p videos for up to 60 seconds at a time. Users can even share photos with friends and family totally hands-free with the voice command, “send a photo.”

Meta and Ray-Ban also describe the glasses as being overall lighter and more comfortable than its predecessor. And powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 Platform, the glasses have 36 hours of battery life with their charging case, spread out over eight additional charges.

Available for pre-order online now, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses start at $299 USD and are available in over 150 lens and frame combinations.

In other tech news, Bowers & Wilkins debuted a new “Royal Burgundy” colorway for the Px8 headphones.
