Bruce Springsteen unveils new song “Addicted to Romance”

Bruce Springsteen unveils new song “Addicted to Romance”

Bruce Springsteen has unveiled “Addicted to Romance,” a song featuring his wife, Patti Scialfa, written for the upcoming film, She Came to Me. Watch the lyric video for the song below.

Produced by Ron Aniello and The National’s Bryce Dessner, “Addicted to Romance” is a piano-led track describing a new romance in true Springsteen fashion, with a narrator who promises to share his dreams with his love and muse, the “neighborhood’s broken daughter,” who’s got him hooked on the rush of love. The song was first announced earlier this year, and was teased by Springsteen on social media leading up to its release, which arrives a week before She Came to Me itself (due on October 6th).

Starring Anne Hathaway, Peter Dinklage, and Marisa Tomei, and directed by Rebecca Miller, She Came to Me tells the story of a frustrated composer who, with the encouragement of his therapist-turned-wife, seeks a new source of inspiration in order to elicit a creative comeback. According to Miller, getting a song from Springsteen for the project was a dream-come-true of sorts.

“I really love Bruce’s music,” Miller said (per Variety). “For the end of She Came to Me, we wanted an original song… I had a secret wish it might be Bruce, but I was reluctant to ask because I felt it was so unlikely. Frankly I was a bit shy.”

Thankfully, when Dessner heard that Springsteen was in Miller’s sights, he pushed for the collaboration to happen. “[He] encouraged me to ask — he was sure Bruce would love the film,” Miller said. “So, I approached him. Bruce and [Scialfa] ended up watching the film, and, to my delight, they both loved it! Bruce said he’d take a few days to see if anything came to him for a song. Miraculously, ‘Addicted to Romance’ was the result. He says he was inspired by the film, which is a great honor for me.”

Meanwhile, symptoms of peptic ulcer disease have spurred Springsteen to postpone the remainder of his 2023 tour dates, but according to a social media update, he has “continued to recover steadily” over the past few weeks, and will “continue treatment through the rest of the year.” The dates are set to be rescheduled, and Springsteen himself said: “Thanks to all my friends and fans for your good wishes, encouragement, and support. I’m on the mend and can’t wait to see you all next year.”
