With Chris Evans and Emily Blunt at the forefront, Netflix‘s funny and familiar Pain Hustlers is sure to deliver on all fronts. The dark comedy film’s first trailer dropped today, giving viewers a brief look into the chaotic and kinda camp-y happenings of a criminal conspiracy
Blunt plays Liza Drake, a mother struggling to support her ailing young daughter – and Zanna Therapeutics representative Pete Brenner, played by Evans, appears to be the ideal guy to help her out. That is until she uncovers Brenner’s company is knee-deep in an extortionary scheme. The film also stars Andy Garcia, Catherine O’Hara, Jay Duplass, Brian d’Arcy James and Chloe Coleman, and was directed by David Yates of the final four Harry Potter films and all three of the Fantastic Beasts films.
“I’ve always been fascinated by salespeople and what they do and the moral side of the pharma industry when they’re hustling to make money,” Yates explained in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Elements of the story are obviously consistent with what Evan Hughes documented in his book, but we created Liza Drake, we created the relationship she has with her daughter, Phoebe, just as a way of allowing the audience to connect with a single character and carry us through the story.”
