Just a day after teasing her upcoming studio album Scarlet, Doja Cat has shared a new cut from the project called “Demons.” Compared to the pop style she’s been leaning into over the past few years, the track is noticeably more trap-like.
Over a punchy, synth beat, Doja drops bars about her “demons,” seemingly addressing some of the recent controversy surrounding her.
“I am on a bigger things / I just bought a limousine,” she raps. “You live like me in your dreams / I just quit the nicotine.”
The single was preceded by the artist sharing the cover of Scarlet, which features two spiders against a stark white background. She also previously posted the lyrics to “Demons” in the caption of a selfie last month, though didn’t elaborate that they were taken from the song at the time.
Slated to release on September 22 via Kemosabe and RCA Records, Scarlet will follow 2021’s Planet Her. Doja has cited one of the inspirations for the new LP as wanting to create a “masculine” record after the glitzy, hyperpop style of Planet Her.
