Doja Cat, Anitta, Lil Wayne and More Added to Performers Lineup for 2023 MTV Video Music Awards

Doja Cat, Anitta, Lil Wayne and More Added to Performers Lineup for 2023 MTV Video Music Awards

Lil Wayne, Anitta, Doja Cat, Kelsea Ballerini, and Tomorrow X Together have been added to the starry lineup of performers for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards taking place on Sept. 12, live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center. They join the first round of performers: Demi Lovato, Karol G, Måneskin and Stray Kids.

Doja Cat, a 23-time nominee at the VMAs, is set to take the stage ahead of the release of her fourth studio album “Scarlet,” slated to drop on Sept. 22. She’s previously taken home four VMA awards and also hosted the awards show in 2021, the same year she won best collaboration alongside SZA for “Kiss Me More.” This year, the “Paint the Town Red” singer is up for five awards, including two in the biggest categories: best video of the year and artist of the year.

Lil Wayne will make his long-awaited return to the VMAs stage after delivering some of the awards show’s most memorable performances in 2011 and 2008. This year, more than a decade since his last appearances, Wayne will treat audiences to the first live performance of his unreleased single “Kat Food,” which is set to arrive on Sept. 1. The 14-time nominee will once again compete in the best hip-hop category, an award he first won in 2008.

Brazillian superstar Anitta returns for the second year in a row to give fans a taste of her latest release “Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story,” a three-song EP with pop and Brazillian funk influences. This follows her first VMAs win as the only Brazilian ever to take home an MTV Moon Person.

Anitta will be joined by Tomorrow X Together, who is set to debut a new single while also making history as the first K-pop band to perform at the VMAs. Alongside Anitta, TXT will offer a “cross-genre” showcase ahead of their third studio album “The Name Chapter: FREEFALL,” slated for an October release.

Multi-platinum country superstar Ballerini will make her debut on the VMAs stage and is bringing with her the expanded version of her new EP “Rolling Up The Welcome Mat (For Good).” It’s been a record-breaking year for the singer-songwriter, who just wrapped three sold-out legs of her headlining tour and a successful trio of coast-to-coast fan screenings for her EP’s short film, which she wrote and co-directed.

The VMAs previously revealed the complete list of nominations, which has Taylor Swift leading the list with eight nominations, closely followed by SZA with six.
