After releasing “Speed Drive” for movie-of-the-summer Barbie, Charli XCX has returned with a full soundtrack, produced in collaboration with composer Leo Birenberg, for the forthcoming queer teen comedy film, Bottoms.
Charli XCX and Birenberg, a film-score specialist who previously worked on Weird: The Al Yankovic Story as well as television series Cobra Kai and PEN15, crafted a 27-track score for the movie, featuring a mix of instrumental tracks and vocal-laid cuts. Charli appears on several songs, including “Yes No Okay,” “School Fair,” “Lockers,” Mr. G” and more. Charli and Birenberg received additional production from composer George Daniel (Love Simon) and A. G. Cook.
The movie, directed by Emma Seligman (who also co-wrote the script with Rachel Sennot), sees two unpopular best friends, PJ (Sennot) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri), create a fight club at their high school in an attempt to lose their virginity before graduation. “They soon find themselves in over their heads when the most popular students start beating each other up in the name of self-defense,” the synopsis reads.
Alongside Sennot and Edebiri, the film stars Havana Rose Liu, Kaia Gerber, Nicholas Galitzine, Dagmara Doniczyk, Marshawn Lynch and Ruby Cruz, among others.
